Why does Amazon need to create distinct charge rates? This can be explained in 2 main points:. Most marketplaces operate with more than 1 business model.

A successful marketplace is the one that can effectively combine different models together which also means the revenue would come from multiple sources, not just depending on 1 method.

In a platform where commission is utilized as the main model, listing fee, freemium or lead fee models are often used as well. What does this have to do with the pricing? The business model mixture will substantially add up the total marketplace fee per transaction to a higher level than the commission fee itself. Not only commission but also other fees are to be taken into consideration when designing marketplace pricing strategy. What if the total fee per transaction is too high?

When looking at how much is earned from each sale, the seller would notice the revenue they actually get and the final amount of fee subtracted, not just the commission. And of course, no one is happy with a too high cost, especially when the majority of products and services traded on your site are low-valued items.

Remember your competitors are always ready to steal providers from your site by offering attractive low selling rate.

As long as the fee seems reasonable compared to income level, sellers will continue to stay on your marketplace. The level of marginal cost is another important factor to consider when making pricing strategy. By definition, marginal cost is the change in total cost that comes from making or producing one additional item.

How does it affect the net profit a provider can earn? On Etsy — a marketplace trading handmade and vintage items, the general marginal cost is quite high since most items are not mass produced but handmade which requires greater effort and time to create. To complete this order, the provider needs to buy necessary materials like a T Shirt, paint brushes, watercolors, then design the T Shirt, pack the item and ship it to the buyer.

Remember that the competition is fierce, while one offers high price, the others are always there giving much lower price. Marketplaces for stock photos, however, show a total contrast. The providers just make the initial effort to produce the original photo, which is worth the money. However, from the second purchase onwards, the marginal cost is almost zero. Just copy and paste the file and send it to customers. In any marketplaces, there are always top sellers and those who only make several sales a year.

Having a distinct, special treatment for top sellers is a useful way to retain them on your site. Everyone once starts as a newcomer making very few sales. Creating offers for these people helps attract new users to your site, which is utterly needed for a new marketplace.

A straight-line commission plan works best for organizations that want to incentivize reps to reach their full potential and have the resources necessary to accommodate an uncapped commission structure.

A tiered structure encourages reps to put in extra effort by providing higher commission as they hit substantial sales milestones. A tiered commission plan is ideal for organizations with salespeople who consistently reach but not exceed their goals — it also offers a little more control on commission rates than the straight-line commission plan. With this commission structure, salespeople work with clients in clearly defined regions — and they're paid on a territory-wide, team-oriented basis versus one revolving around individual sales.

First and foremost and perhaps most obviously , a territory volume commission plan suits businesses that have presences in multiple territories. It's ideal for team-based organizations who are wanting to fortify in specific service areas. With a recoverable draw against commission plan, a sales rep receives their commission in advance at the beginning of a pay or sales period in the form of a predetermined lump sum. At the end of that sales period, that lump sum or "draw" is subtracted from that rep's total earned commissions.

A recoverable draw against commission plan is typically used to get reps off the ground in some capacity. It's often used to compensate newly hired, ramping reps as they onboard. It might also be used to pay a rep who's getting acclimated to a new territory. A non-recoverable draw is more or less a fully guaranteed commission stipend. Like its recoverable counterpart, it starts with a firm giving its reps a predetermined lump sum, but with a non-recoverable plan, reps aren't expected to pay any of that money back.

This plan isn't particularly sustainable or motivating. It's typically used as a short-term measure during times of company, industry, or broader economic uncertainty to ensure that sales reps have a stable source of income. A residual commission structure is based on the long-term value of individual accounts. With this structure, salespeople who close deals continue to receive commission from those accounts on an ongoing basis — so long as they continue to generate revenue.

This particular structure can be higher-stakes than most. On one hand, salespeople can build a breadth of solid, productive income streams over time. On the other, losing an account — for reasons that might have nothing to do with the salesperson who landed it — can take a sizable hit on commission that might be hard to recover.

This structure is best suited for businesses that maintain long-term relationships with clients, including entities like advertising agencies or consulting firms. This ultimate guide to sales compensation provides even more detail on sales commission structures and compensation plans.

And it will help you determine which structure will work best for your company and sales team. The concept of a 'fair commission rate for sales' is fluid and tends to vary by industry and role. Averages for salary and commission allow sales leaders to see how their sales commission plan compares to the rest of their industry. And for salespeople, they can see how their sales compensation plan stacks up. These wages reflect the median average pay for each industry.

The commission rate will depend on the company and the commission structure they choose. These kinds of sales representatives sell goods for wholesalers or manufacturers to businesses, government agencies, and other organizations.

Their job security and livelihood are often almost entirely intertwined with the volume of merchandise they can sell. Their commission structure tends to reflect that. These reps are often paid with absolute or base salary plus commission plans. Insurance sales agents contact potential customers to sell different kinds of insurance. Agents spend time directly interfacing with clients, completing paperwork, and preparing presentations. They also fulfill other customer-facing and administrative responsibilities.

Commission for this brand of sales is generally paid on a base salary plus commission basis. Commission percentages tend to vary by the type of insurance agents are selling. Advertising sales agents sell advertising space to businesses and individuals. They often work across a variety of industries and media, including advertising agencies, radio, television, and Internet publishing.

Advertising sales agents often have strict quotas and receive a commission for meeting or exceeding them. Real estate brokers and sales agents help clients buy, sell, and rent properties. Every state requires real estate sales professionals to be licensed. That could mean completing courses or passing a state-specific exam. Securities, commodities, and financial services agents buy and sell securities or commodities in investment and trading firms.

They can also provide financial services to businesses and individuals. Some advise customers about stocks, bonds, mutual funds, commodities, and market conditions. These salespeople often charge flat-rate commissions either per share or per trade.

This category of sales encompasses salespeople in positions and industries in a wide variety of service-based businesses, including business support, technical consulting, electronics, telecommunications, computer systems and electronics, and software as a service. It excludes advertising, insurance, travel, and other categories. Given the wide range of industries and companies encompassed in this category, it can be hard to identify its most common commission structure.

Several different kinds of salespeople fall under this category, including professionals in telecommunications, residential building construction, and subscription programming. Like the previous one, the wide range of industries and companies encompassed in this category makes it hard to pin down a standard commission structure.

Retail sales refers to the occupation in which merchandise such as clothing, furniture, or appliances is sold in a retail brick-and-mortar environment. These environments include everything from general merchandise stores to dealers specializing in specific wares such as sporting goods or musical instruments. Since success is often dependent on foot traffic rather than sales activity, retail salespersons are often compensated by a base salary only.

Use these simple tips to keep your goggles in tip-top condition: When taking your goggles off, never place them face down on a hard surface. Tips to prevent fogging. And a high VLT number such as 70 percent means better color and depth perception on low-light days.

In low light and fog, yellow, gold and amber lenses filter out blue light , emphasizing shadows in the snow so you can see bumps better. They also work well in moderate and variable light conditions.

In bright light, dark tints such as copper, dark brown, dark gray and dark green will keep your eyes more comfortable while they increase contrast. Gray lenses are also good for letting you see true colors. A mirror or "flash" coating enhances the effectiveness of tinted lenses by reflecting sunlight so it doesn't penetrate the lens.

This lowers the VLT of the lens and makes it a great choice for bright, sunny days. For sunset and nighttime, use only clear lenses, since they have the highest VLT, allowing the most light to come into your eyes. Consider goggles with photochromic lenses , which become lighter or darker automatically, as the light changes. Usually they are available in either gray or brown. Interchangeable lenses are becoming more common in ski goggles and sports sunglasses.

They let you switch lenses when light conditions change. Several manufacturers offer ski goggles specifically for faces with shallow nose bridges and high cheekbones. Check out the lens color charts on the websites of ski goggle manufacturers. It can be difficult to choose among the many lenses available now, but the manufacturers' charts usually specify how much VLT the tints provide and which light conditions they work for best. In fact, when choosing a ski goggle, look at lens features first.

Lenses are the most important part — everything else is either the support system or the fashion statement. Polarized lenses reduce glare from sunlight reflecting off the slopes and are great when it's bright out. But they may not be ideal near the end of the day when long shadows appear in the snow, because they usually are made with a darker tint than most sun lenses.

Too much exposure to UV on a short-term basis can give you a painful sunburn on your eyes, called photokeratitis. Long-term, UV rays can damage your eyes permanently and may lead to cataracts and other eye diseases. Look for goggles and sunglasses that block percent of these rays, which bounce off the snow and into your eyes even on cloudy days.

Newer, lower-profile styles fit better with a helmet and look cooler than traditional styles with large lenses. But if you choose the low-profile look, make sure you have enough peripheral side vision — some goggles skimp out on that.

Ideally, you should be able to see degrees from side to side, to help you avoid skiers and riders. If you prefer sunglasses, choose a wrap style with the least amount of distortion at the sides that you can find.

Take the time to adjust the strap to properly fit your head. If the strap is a complete pain to adjust, or if the buckle doesn't stay in adjustment, move on. Make sure they will fit with or without a helmet. Even if you don't use one now, you may in the future. Some styles have softer, more rubbery buckles that won't dig into your scalp. Darker tints have lower VLT because less light passes through the lens. Brown, gray and copper-colored lenses all offer reduced VLT and thus excel on bluebird days.

Improves depth perception, increases contrast and cuts glare in all conditions. Amber or orange lenses also work well for overcast conditions to help you distinguish moguls. This lighter tint allows as much light in as possible and provides you with enhanced contrast throughout those darker days.

Darker shades are intended primarily to cut through the glare and reduce eyestrain in moderate-to-bright conditions. Oakley Flight Deck with Prizm Rose Lens The best ski goggles for flat light goes to Oakley Flight Deck, thanks to the wide variation of tints suitable for low light conditions. These goggles have garnered enough fans to make them one of the best ski goggles in For night skiing, people usually prefer yellow or clear goggles.

The clear goggles will let the most light in, but some people find that yellow or other lightly tinted goggles can help with seeing contrast. Ski goggles seals the eyes so small particles and the cold wind will not deter you from seeing your way clearly.

Night skiing and snowboarding does not require any colored lens. Clear lenses are enough and will not alter vision under dark conditions. Green goggle lenses are great for those partly cloudy, overcast days on the slopes. They help reduce glare and filter out light. Green goggle lenses also help to increase contrast giving you a better depth perception while skiing or snowboarding. Green goggle lenses can also be worn on brighter days too!

Polarized lenses are an excellent choice for boating and fishing, because they reduce glare from sunlight reflecting off flat surfaces.

Only if Teredo clients have been enabled to acquire a Teredo IPv6 address in spite of being behind a symmetric NAT will this extension help in traversing port-preserving symmetric NATs. However, clients behind symmetric NATs can still not communicate with clients behind port-restricted or symmetric NATs, as described in Section 3. If a Teredo client is positioned behind a port-preserving symmetric NAT, the client can communicate with other Teredo clients positioned behind a port-restricted NAT or a port-preserving symmetric NAT as follows.

Teredo clients compare the mapped port learned during the qualification procedure with their local port to determine if they are positioned behind a port-preserving NAT. If both the mapped port and the local port have the same value, the Teredo client is positioned behind a port-preserving NAT. At the end of the qualification procedure, the Teredo client also knows if it is positioned behind a symmetric NAT, as described in Section 3.

Teredo clients positioned behind port-preserving symmetric NATs can also listen on randomly chosen local ports. If the randomly chosen local port has not been used by the symmetric NAT as a mapped port in a prior port-mapping, the NAT uses the same port number as the mapped port.

Thus, the challenge is to get the first direct bubble sent out from the random port to be destined to a valid destination address and port.

Thus, the protocol messages, which communicate one Teredo client's random port number to the other Teredo client, must be exchanged indirectly via Teredo servers. When one Teredo client has access to the other Teredo client's random port number, it can send a direct bubble destined to the mapped address embedded in the destination's Teredo IPv6 address, and the mapped port can be the same as the destination's random port number.

If both NATs are port-preserving, port-preserved mappings are created on both NATs and the second direct bubble succeeds in reaching the destination. During qualification, if the client discovers it is behind a symmetric NAT that is not port-preserving, the client assumes by default that it is behind a sequential port-symmetric NAT.

This assumption is proactive for the following reasons: o There is no perfect method of discovering whether the client is behind a sequential port-symmetric NAT. At times, they could be sequential port-symmetric and at other times not. Teredo clients positioned behind sequential port-symmetric NATs can also listen on a randomly chosen local port when communicating with a peer.

To predict the external port being used for a given peer, the client sends three packets: Thaler Standards Track [Page 14] RFC Teredo Extensions January o Packet 1 is a router solicitation as specified in Section 5.

As part of the normal Teredo protocol, the Teredo server responds to packets 1 and 3. Based on the information in the responses, the client now knows that Packet 1 was seen as coming from one external port, and Packet 3 was seen as coming from another external port.

Assuming the NAT is a sequential port-symmetric NAT, the external port for Packet 2 is estimated or predicted to be midway between the external ports for Packets 1 and 3.

Note that because other applications might also have been using the NAT between packets 1 and 3, the actual port might not be exactly the midpoint. The Teredo client then communicates the predicted port to its peer, which sends a direct bubble to the communicated port.

If the communicated port is indeed the external port for Packet 2, the direct bubble will reach the Teredo client. Hairpinning Extension Hairpinning support in a NAT routes packets that are sent from a private local address destined to a public mapped address of the NAT, back to another private local destination address behind the same NAT.

If hairpinning support is not available in a NAT, two Teredo clients behind the same NAT are not able to communicate with each other, as specified in Section 8. This process is illustrated in the following diagram.

Server Load Reduction Extension If communication between a Teredo client and a Teredo peer was successfully established but at a later stage was silent for a while, for efficiency, it is best to refresh the mapping state in the NATs that are positioned between them. To refresh the communication between itself and a Teredo peer, a Teredo client needs to solicit a direct bubble response from the Teredo peer.

An indirect bubble is sent to solicit a direct bubble response from a Teredo peer, as specified in Section 5. However, these indirect bubbles increase the load on the Teredo server.

The Server Load Reduction Extension allows Teredo clients to send direct bubbles most of the time instead of sending indirect bubbles all of the time in the following way: 1.

When a Teredo client tries to refresh its communication with a Teredo peer, it uses a direct bubble instead of an indirect bubble. However, because direct bubbles do not normally solicit a response, the direct bubble format is extended to be able to solicit a response.

When a Teredo client receives a direct bubble that is soliciting a response, the Teredo client responds with a direct bubble. If attempts to re-establish communication with the help of direct bubbles fail, the Teredo client starts over the process of establishing communication with the Teredo peer, as specified in Section 5.

In addition, Section 5. In addition, the client should check that the IPv6 destination address correspond [sic] to its own Teredo address.

This document updates the word "consistent" above as follows. This allows the use of trailers after the IPv6 packet, which are defined in the following sections. Trailers Teredo packets can carry a variable number of type-length-value TLV encoded trailers, of the following format intended to be similar to the use of IPv6 options defined in [RFC] section 4.

Length 1 byte : 8-bit unsigned integer. Length of the Value field of this trailer, in octets. Value variable : Trailer-Type-specific data. The trailer Type identifiers are internally encoded such that their highest-order two bits specify the action that is to be taken if the host does not recognize the trailer Type: Thaler Standards Track [Page 18] RFC Teredo Extensions January 00, 10, 11 - skip over this trailer and continue processing the packet.

The Nonce Trailer can be present in both indirect and direct bubbles. This field MUST be set to 0x Length 1 byte : The length in bytes of the rest of the option. Nonce 4 bytes : The nonce value. The Alternate Address Trailer provides another Teredo client positioned behind the same NAT with more address options that it can use to connect.

The value of this field MUST be in the range 8 to 26 i. This field MUST contain a valid unicast address. Port 2 bytes : A port number in network byte order. This allows packets to be sent without having to relay them through a Teredo server. The Neighbor Discovery Option Trailer allows the receiver to differentiate between a direct bubble that is soliciting a response versus a regular direct bubble.

This allows Teredo clients to use direct bubbles to refresh inactive connections instead of using indirect bubbles. TeredoDiscoveryAdvertisement 0x01 : The direct bubble is in response to a direct bubble or an indirect bubbles containing DiscoveryType TeredoDiscoverySolicitation.

Random Port 2 bytes : The external port that the sender predicts that its NAT has assigned it for communication with the destination. This field MUST be specified in network byte order. Protocol Details 5. Common Processing The behavior in this section applies to multiple extensions. Packets equivalent to those sent for a peer the first time a connection is being established MAY be generated at other implementation-specific times. Refresh Interval Section 5. The need to use this procedure or not depends on the delay since the last interaction with the Teredo server.

The refresh procedure takes as a parameter the "Teredo refresh interval". This parameter is initially set to 30 seconds; it can be updated as a result of the optional "interval determination procedure". This requirement can be problematic when the client is behind a NAT that expires state in less than 30 seconds.

The optional interval determination procedure Section 5. An implementation MAY set the randomized refresh interval to a value randomly chosen within an implementation-specific range.

Section 5. A Teredo client MAY choose to send additional router solicitation messages to the server at other implementation-specific times. If the Teredo client does not recognize the trailer Type while processing the trailers in the Teredo packet, the client MUST discard the packet if the highest- order bits of the trailer Type contain 01, or else the Teredo client MUST skip past the trailer.

When I try to go online it gets stuck on finding online adventure, or making horizon group. I have left it going for an entire night, only to find it still searching. So i went into CMD, and typed netsh int How to Port Forward to fix Teredo Issues?? How to enable upnp : Hi, I'm trying to find help on enabling upnp on pc I run windows 10, I've tried everything but nothing seems to work pls and thank you.

Teredo unable to start, says offline with no error : Okay I have been having this issue for so long that I am close to pulling a summit on my monitor.

Teredo is always disabled, no matter what I do, and I rarely ever am able to use xbox party chat. UPnP stopped working? Now there nothing. Any suggestions as If the count is less than three, it MUST then reset the timer to expire in two seconds. Otherwise if the count is now three , it MUST send an indirect bubble to the Teredo peer to reestablish connectivity as if no communication between the Teredo client and the Teredo peer had been established.

Sending a Data Packet Upon receiving a data packet to be transmitted to the Teredo peer, the Teredo client MUST determine whether data has been exchanged between the Teredo client and peer in either direction in the last 30 seconds using the state as specified in [RFC] section 5. The retransmission timer MUST be set to expire in two seconds. Protocol Examples The following sections describe several operations as used in common scenarios to illustrate the function of Teredo Extensions. In Figure 2 Section 3.

The qualification procedure where the Teredo client determines that it is positioned behind a symmetric NAT is exactly the same as that specified in [RFC] section 5.

This is characteristic of the port-symmetric NAT positioned in front of A. The mapped address in the source field of the packet is the same as the mapped address embedded in the Teredo IPv6 address of A. A sends an indirect bubble Packet 2 destined to B via client B's Teredo server.

The above-mentioned indirect bubble is received by B. B then responds with the following packets. The aforementioned indirect bubble is successfully received by A. A responds to the indirect bubble with its own direct bubble Packet 5. This direct bubble is exactly the same as the first direct bubble Packet 1 sent by A. It is important to remember that A's NAT is port-symmetric and therefore varies only the mapped port while the mapped address remains the same.

B's NAT is address- restricted and cares only about prior communication with the IPv4 address, not the specific port. At this point, communication in one direction is now possible B to A, but not vice versa.

A then times out and resends an indirect bubble Packet 6 and in response, B sends a direct bubble Packet 7. Communication is now possible in the other direction client A to B. Before both clients start their qualification procedure, they use UPnP to reserve port mappings on their respective NATs.

The above indirect bubble is received by B. At this point, communication is now possible in the other direction A to B. The following packet exchange explains the configuration setup and communication setup between the two clients.

During the qualification procedure, when the clients receive a response from the Teredo server, they compare the Port value in the Origin indication with the Local Port value. A also checks to see if the peer is "trusted," but it currently is not. Next, A checks if the Random Port is set to non-zero. Since it is still zero, A allocates a new random port, begins listening on it, and stores the value in the Random Port field. This indirect bubble contains two trailers: the Nonce Trailer containing a random nonce, and the Random Port Trailer containing the random port value from the Peer Entry.

The aforementioned indirect bubble is received by B. B adds the Teredo peer to its peer list. B responds by sending the following packets. This packet is sent from the primary port. It also checks if the peer has already advertised a random port. In this case, B is positioned behind a port-preserving symmetric NAT and the peer has advertised a random port; hence it needs to use a random port.

It checks if its Random Port field is set to non-zero. Since it is still zero, B allocates a new random port, begins listening on it, and stores it in the Random Port entry of the Peer Entry.

The direct bubble is sent from its own random port. B also sends an indirect bubble Packet 5 destined to A via A's Teredo server. The Nonce Trailer includes a new randomly generated nonce that is also stored in the Nonce Sent field of the Peer Entry. A parses the trailers and stores the nonce contained in the Nonce Trailer in the Nonce Received field of the Peer Entry. A responds with the following packets in response to the indirect bubble received. The aforementioned direct bubble again is dropped by B's NAT because the NAT has not seen an outgoing packet with the same 4-tuple as the incoming packet.

The next packet is also a direct bubble Packet 7 and this one is sent from A's random port. Because A still considers B to be "not-trusted," it times out and retransmits an indirect bubble Packet 8. This packet contains a new nonce as part of the Nonce Trailer and also contains the value of the random port as part of the Random Port Trailer. B receives the aforementioned indirect bubble. The processing of this indirect bubble is similar to the processing of Packet 2.

Since B received a direct bubble on its random port, it does not respond with a direct bubble from its primary port. Instead, it responds with a direct bubble Packet 9 sent from its random port, which is similar to Packet 4 mentioned above.

A receives the direct bubble sent by B. At this point, the communication is now possible in the other direction A to B. During the qualification procedure, when Client A receives a response from the Teredo server, it compares the Port value in the Origin indication with the Local Port value.

Since they are different, it concludes that it is not behind a port-preserving NAT, and so assumes it is behind a sequential port-symmetric NAT. When A wants to communicate with B, A starts by sending a direct bubble Packet 1 from its primary port.

Client A then performs its Echo Test as follows: A. Client A sends a router solicitation Packet 2 to its Teredo server address from port The server responds with a router advertisement Packet 3. Client A sends a direct bubble Packet 4 to the peer from port destined to the port advertised in Client B's Teredo address, say, port Client A sends a router solicitation Packet 5 to its secondary Teredo server address from port The server responds with a router advertisement Packet 6.

On receiving the corresponding router advertisements for Packet 2 and Packet 4, Client A knows that port maps to, say, port for Packet 2 and port for Packet 4. Client A then calculates its predicted port used for Packet 2 as the average rounded down of and , i. Client A then sends out an indirect bubble Packet 7.

This indirect bubble contains a random port trailer that contains the predicted port, port This indirect bubble makes it to Client B. Client B sends out the following bubbles in response to the indirect bubble: A. The first direct bubble Packet 8 is destined for the port mapping embedded in Client A's Teredo Address.

The next packet will be a direct bubble Packet 10 sent to port Your Xbox will work normally without IPv6 connectivity. However, for the best possible experience, we recommend enabling IPv6 on your network. Destiny 2. Why does my Xbox say NAT type unavailable? How do I enable Teredo?

When using CESU-8, great care must be taken that data is not accidentally treated as if it was UTF-8, due to the similarity of the formats. A different issue arises if an unpaired surrogate is encountered when converting ill-formed UTF data.

By representing such an unpaired surrogate on its own as a 3-byte sequence, the resulting UTF-8 data stream would become ill-formed. While it faithfully reflects the nature of the input, Unicode conformance requires that encoding form conversion always results in a valid data stream. Therefore a converter must treat this as an error. A: UTF uses a single bit code unit to encode the most common 63K characters, and a pair of bit code units, called surrogates, to encode the 1M less commonly used characters in Unicode.

Originally, Unicode was designed as a pure bit encoding, aimed at representing all modern scripts. Ancient scripts were to be represented with private-use characters. Over time, and especially after the addition of over 14, composite characters for compatibility with legacy sets, it became clear that bits were not sufficient for the user community. Out of this arose UTF A: Surrogates are code points from two special ranges of Unicode values, reserved for use as the leading, and trailing values of paired code units in UTF They are called surrogates, since they do not represent characters directly, but only as a pair.

A: The Unicode Standard used to contain a short algorithm, now there is just a bit distribution table. Here are three short code snippets that translate the information from the bit distribution table into C code that will convert to and from UTF The next snippet does the same for the low surrogate. Finally, the reverse, where hi and lo are the high and low surrogate, and C the resulting character.

A caller would need to ensure that C, hi, and lo are in the appropriate ranges. A: There is a much simpler computation that does not try to follow the bit distribution table.

They are well acquainted with the problems that variable-width codes have caused. In SJIS, there is overlap between the leading and trailing code unit values, and between the trailing and single code unit values.

This causes a number of problems: It causes false matches. It prevents efficient random access. To know whether you are on a character boundary, you have to search backwards to find a known boundary. It makes the text extremely fragile. If a unit is dropped from a leading-trailing code unit pair, many following characters can be corrupted. In UTF, the code point ranges for high and low surrogates, as well as for single units are all completely disjoint.

None of these problems occur: There are no false matches. The location of the character boundary can be directly determined from each code unit value. The vast majority of SJIS characters require 2 units, but characters using single units occur commonly and often have special importance, for example in file names. With UTF, relatively few characters require 2 units.

The vast majority of characters in common use are single code units. Certain documents, of course, may have a higher incidence of surrogate pairs, just as phthisique is an fairly infrequent word in English, but may occur quite often in a particular scholarly text. Both Unicode and ISO have policies in place that formally limit future code assignment to the integer range that can be expressed with current UTF 0 to 1,, Even if other encoding forms i.

Over a million possible codes is far more than enough for the goal of Unicode of encoding characters, not glyphs. Unicode is not designed to encode arbitrary data. A: Unpaired surrogates are invalid in UTFs. A: Not at all. Noncharacters are valid in UTFs and must be properly converted.

For more details on the definition and use of noncharacters, as well as their correct representation in each UTF, see the Noncharacters FAQ. Q: Because most supplementary characters are uncommon, does that mean I can ignore them? A: Most supplementary characters expressed with surrogate pairs in UTF are not too common. However, that does not mean that supplementary characters should be neglected.

Among them are a number of individual characters that are very popular, as well as many sets important to East Asian procurement specifications. Among the notable supplementary characters are:. A: Compared with BMP characters as a whole, the supplementary characters occur less commonly in text.

This remains true now, even though many thousands of supplementary characters have been added to the standard, and a few individual characters, such as popular emoji, have become quite common. The relative frequency of BMP characters, and of the ASCII subset within the BMP, can be taken into account when optimizing implementations for best performance: execution speed, memory usage, and data storage. Such strategies are particularly useful for UTF implementations, where BMP characters require one bit code unit to process or store, whereas supplementary characters require two.

Strategies that optimize for the BMP are less useful for UTF-8 implementations, but if the distribution of data warrants it, an optimization for the ASCII subset may make sense, as that subset only requires a single byte for processing and storage in UTF This term should now be avoided.

UCS-2 does not describe a data format distinct from UTF, because both use exactly the same bit code unit representations. However, UCS-2 does not interpret surrogate code points, and thus cannot be used to conformantly represent supplementary characters. Sometimes in the past an implementation has been labeled "UCS-2" to indicate that it does not support supplementary characters and doesn't interpret pairs of surrogate code points as characters. Such an implementation would not handle processing of character properties, code point boundaries, collation, etc.

This single 4 code unit corresponds to the Unicode scalar value, which is the abstract number associated with a Unicode character. For more information, see Section 3. A: This depends. However, the downside of UTF is that it forces you to use bits for each character, when only 21 bits are ever needed. Alternatively, your editor may tell you in a status bar or a menu what encoding your file is in, including information about the presence or not of the UTF-8 signature.

You can also specify in your preferences see illustration whether new documents should use a BOM by default. In general, these issues are fading away as people adopt newer versions of browsers and editing tools. It is worth knowing about them if your user base still uses older technology. However, this is not solely about legacy issues. At the time this article was written, if you include some external file in a page using PHP and that file starts with a BOM, it may create blank lines. This is because the BOM is not stripped before inclusion into the page, and acts like a character occupying a line of text.

See an example. In the example, a blank line containing the BOM appears above the first item of included text. When sending custom HTTP headers the code to set the header must be called before output begins.

A BOM at the start of the file causes the page to begin output before the header command is interpreted, and may lead to error messages and other problems in the displayed page. You need to be careful to take the BOM into account in scripts or program code that automatically process files that start with a BOM. For example, when pattern matching at the start of a file that begins with a BOM you need additional code to test for the presence of the BOM and ignore it if found. This can be very useful when the author of the page cannot control the character encoding setting of the server, or is unaware of its effect, and the server is declaring pages to be in an encoding other than UTF At the time of writing, not all browsers do this, so you should not rely on all readers of your page benefitting from this just yet.

It is hoped that the next version of Internet Explorer will revert to the previous behaviour, which will then be in line with the other major browsers.

If you use applications or scripts in the back end of your site you should check that they are also able to recognize and handle the BOM. Unicode is a group of standards developed in the s and '90s in order to integrate all of the major computer languages into one coding lexicon.

Before UTF-8 was introduced in , Unicode text was transferred using bit code units. These units had a quality called endianness, which essentially identified the byte order either by least significant first or most significant first. The byte order mark is generally an optional feature in typical, closed-environment text-processing, however it is needed in situations involving text interchange. It is not necessary to deflate the cuff to perform suctioning. After determining amount of air needed to obtain minimum occluding volume, note amount on patient care plan.

The pressure in the tracheostomy tube cuff should be monitored at least every 8 hours if the cuff is inflated continuously. To inflate the cuff with the digital P-V gauge, set slide gauge at "0 cc" mark and then proceed as described in "cuff pressure measuring using digital P-V gauge" 7 above.

Refer to package instructions concerning cuff management for brands of tracheostomy tubes other than the Shiley disposable cannula low pressure cuffed tracheostomy tube. Always test the tracheostomy tube cuff for leakage before inserting the tube. Inflate the cuff with the volume of air indicated in the following table.

Observe for deflation over several minutes or immerse the tube in sterile saline and observe for leakage. However, with a trach tube, air moves in and out of the tube and does not reach the vocal cords. Cuff Deflations: A person can speak with a trach tube by deflating the cuff and placing a speaking valve.

The pulmonologist or nurse practitioner will order cuff deflations when the patient is ready, or they may order partial deflations on patients who are on the ventilator. The following criteria will need to be met before cuff deflations will be considered:.

A speaking valve is a one-way valve that attaches to the end of a trach tube. It is designed to open when the patient takes a breath and close when the patient exhales. When the valve closes, it forces air up into the airway and across the vocal cords, allowing for sound and speech. The patient will breathe in through the trach and exhale out through the nose and mouth. Placement of a speaking valve should initially be done by a respiratory therapist, pulmonary doctor, or nurse practitioner.

Capping a patient who has an inflated cuff can result in DEATH because this would not allow a patient to breathe in, out or both. A tracheostomy cap red cap covers the opening of the trach tube and blocks air from entering the tube. This forces the patient to breathe in and out through their nose and mouth. This is often the last step before the trach is removed decannulation. If the trach can be capped for a long enough time without any problems, it is probably safe to be removed. Patients on ventilators can be allowed to speak by doing partial cuff deflations.

The respiratory therapist will deflate the cuff enough for air to leak past the tube and across the vocal cords but will leave enough air in the cuff to allow for proper ventilation of the patient.

If the cuff were completely deflated, all of the air would escape out of the nose and mouth and would not be delivered to the lungs as a breath. After the stoma is clean, place a gauze pad under the trach tube. Journal of Critical Care, 28 2 , Passy Muir Valves. Educational Products. International Distributors. How to Order. For one, it directs airflow through the tracheostomy tube in and out of the lungs. Inflation allows the clinician to control and monitor ventilation when the patient is on mechanical ventilation. Secondly, inflation can reduce the amount and speed of aspiration, providing some protection in the patient who may have gross emesis or reflux when aspiration of gastric contents may occur. Aspiration occurs at the level of the vocal cords. A tracheostomy is placed below the vocal cords.

Thus material sitting on top of the cuff is already aspirated. Aspirated and pooled secretions sitting on top of the cuff has the potential to colonize leading to infection. Secretions sitting on top of the cuff also have the potential to harden forming a mucous plug which could easily fall into the lungs.

Deflating the cuff is the way to go Bivona foam trach is the exception. After the first 24 hours post tracheostomy, benefits of cuff deflation can be safe. Some airflow is reestablished through the upper airway when the cuff is deflated.

The oracle of the hills and she shows that spirits are in the hills. What sport did the villagers enjoy watching during their feasting? What influence did Ikemefuna have on Nwoye? He had a good influence and made him ambitious and made him a man.

What did the village decide to do with Ikemefuna? To kill him after three years. Who struck the last bow to Ikemefuna? He thought of his strength and success. He said he was becoming a woman. He said it was the kind of action that would not please the earth. She had borne ten children, but nine died in infancy.

He brewed a potion made of leaves and herbs. What was the purpose of the ceremony described in Chapter 10? He would only accept the symbolic meeting of the clan spirits.

He was called the cat because a cat's back would never touch the earth. Then Oknonkwo beat him in a match. How is Okonkwo responsible for his downfall? Okonkwo's fear of being viewed as weak and effeminate influenced him to become a callous, violent man.

Okonkwo's aggressive, hostile personality leads to several bad decisions, which results in his downfall. Why did Okonkwo kill ikemefuna? In achieving success, fame, and power, Okonkwo habitually resorts to and comes to rely on thoughtless violence. Without regard for consequences, Okonkwo acts - beats his son, repudiates his father, kills Ikemefuna, butchers the messenger.

He becomes the epitome of violent action and as such ultimately destroys himself. Why does Okonkwo shoot at Ekwefi? The priest demands that Okonkwo will pay a fine for breaking the peace during the sacred time known as the Week of Peace. During the New Yam Festival, Okonkwo becomes angry when he has nothing to do.

He beats Ekwefi. He accuses her of killing a banana tree. How did ikemefuna die? As the boy's back is turned, one of the men strikes the first blow with his machete. Ikemefuna cries out to Okonkwo, "My father, they have killed me! Afraid to appear weak, Okonkwo kills Ikemefuna with his machete.

When Nwoye learns that Ikemefuna is dead, something changes within him. How many wives does Okonkwo have? How did Okonkwo gain his fame? As a young man of eighteen he had brought honour to his village by throwing Amalinze the Cat. In the end Okonkwo threw the Cat. He wore a haggard and mournful look except when he was drinking or playing on his flute. He was very good on his flute, and his happiest moments were the two or three moons after the harvest when the village musicians brought down their instruments, hung above the fireplace.

Unoka would play with them, his face beaming with blessedness and peace. Sometimes another village would ask Unoka's band and their dancing egwugwu to come and stay with them and teach them their tunes.

They would go to such hosts for as long as three or four markets, making music and feasting. Unoka loved the good fare and the good fellowship, and he loved this season of the year, when the rains had stopped and the sun rose every morning with dazzling beauty. And it was not too hot either, because the cold and dry harmattan wind was blowing down from the north Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Buy Things Fall Apart at the Guardian bookshop. The devil population increased again over the years, but there is now a new worry. Scientists are working hard to find a cure and the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program is working to save them from extinction. They certainly are.

Devils play an important role, by eating sick and dead animals. They probably also help to control feral cats in Tasmania and, by doing so, they help to protect some of our native species, particularly birds.

They can even help us control animals that do not belong in Tasmania - such as the red fox, an animal that is a big problem on the Australian mainland. While there are many devils around, it is very difficult for foxes to breed in Tasmania. Fox dens are very smelly and quite messy, so devils can quickly sniff them out. Devils are also useful in other ways. Think about things that are unique to Tasmania and the Tasmanian devil will probably be at the top of your list.

Tourists love to see our devils and they will travel long distances to do so. Devils are so popular that products and sports teams are named after them. Devils are carnivores, which means they will eat other animals. They are also scavengers, and they're not too fussy at dinnertime. They often eat half-rotten meat and scavenge in the bush and on farms, like natural vacuum cleaners, keeping the bush healthy and reducing maggots, which can lead to fly strike in sheep.

They also like fresh meat, and sometimes go hunting for food. They'll eat lizards, frogs and insects, in fact almost any animal protein they can find. When devils find a dead animal, such as a wallaby, they will eat it - bones, fur and all. When devils eat they usually make a lot of noise. This is because some devils want to show the others who is boss. Sometimes they will feed in a group, having a 'tug of war' over a piece of meat helps to pull it apart quicker.

How much do devils eat? Do they eat farm animals such as sheep and cows? When a farm animal dies, the devils will usually eat it. If it's a cow, they will only eat small bits, like the udder and the mouth, because the cow's skin is too thick for devils.

Sheep and lambs that are sick or injured may also be killed and eaten. Healthy animals are safe, but chickens or ducks that roost on the ground may be just too tempting for a hungry devil. Do devils hunt in packs? As far as we know, devils do not form packs like dogs do. Sometimes, many devils can be found in one place at the same time - and they may even try to hunt the same animal - but that doesn't mean they are organised or working together in any way.

In devil world, it's each animal for himself. Tasmanian devils are also incredible swimmers and can run at 24 kilometres per hour 15 miles per hour for up to an hour straight. Even a Tasmanian devil's teeth are unique! They have the same number of teeth as a dog 42 , but unlike dogs, a devil's teeth grow continuously throughout its life, contributing to its phenomenal ability to consume the bones of its prey. Tasmanian devils have been considered to be endangered species since ; one of the primary causes being hit by cars when they attempt to retrieve roadkill.

In addition, a facial tumor disease is spreading through the population. The tumors build up in affected animals' mouths and stop them from eating. Tens of thousands of Tasmanian devils have died since the disease appeared in the late 90s. Video Here. Alongside a team of conservationists from the organisation Aussie Ark , Aussie actor and Tourism Australia ambassador Chris Hemsworth has reintroduced 26 Tasmanian devils into a national park in eastern New South Wales, marking the first time the endangered species have roamed mainland Australia in 3, years.

The reintroduction plan Devilcomeback plans to release additional devils over the next two years. We use cookies on this site to enhance your user experience. Find out more. By clicking any link on this page you are giving your consent for us to set cookies.

Where do Tasmanian Devils live? Once Tasmanian Devils were found all over Australia. Ever since John saw Heath, his first day at the cafe, he's wanted him, and wanted to protect him.

It doesn't take John and Heath very long before they're falling in love. Of course, they've been flirting and talking at the cafe for a couple of months. A four day trip to Atlanta, where they're joined by Chuck and Herb, really solidifies it. And again proves how insanely adorable Herb is. Everything is going well until bigotry and hatred intervene, leaving John with some serious decisions to make regarding his future and his career.

As much as I enjoyed John and Heath's tale, there were a few things I had difficulty seeing past. There were a large number of inconsistencies, which, frankly, I found to be very distracting. The similarities within these main characters to the main characters in book one were huge and, in my opinion, detracted from who John and Heath could've been.

I did like the ending, which tied in nicely with the previous book. Now, I will admit to being very excited about the next book since it features the CEO of the pharmaceutical company which Herb and Jessie work for, and his relationship with his head of security.

Yep, can't wait. One tiny itty bitty little complaint. A SFC living in the barracks?? I don't even think that's technically allowed.

And even if it were allowed, why would you want to when you are single and making that E-7 pay? Feb 24, Elisa Rolle added it. The first book in the series had a similar incipit, twink meets hunk, and so it was not a surprise, but Why I Love Waiters is as funny as it was Why I Love Geeks, and as an added bonus, we have the chance to read more about Chuck and Herb from book 1. But as soon as he has the first taste of Heath, he is totally sold, and nothing will prevent him to make the guy totally his own.

The author decided to maintain the story on the light mood, she plays with her characters and with the reader, making this novel a little sexy, little funny thing, just a bit of this and that, without exaggerating with both ingredients. You smile and you coo on how cute Heath and John are together, doubling the cooing when Chuck and Herb come to visit: Heath and Herb together are almost too much, and that is the reason why Chuck and John give them little time to plot.

Jan 29, Angela rated it really liked it Shelves: mm-read. I really liked this book and I preferred it to the first book in the series. It just focused on the relationship between the two MC's and there was no distracting sub plot. The book follows John who's Chucks' brother from the first book and Heath - the man he falls for. It's a sweet, sexy and funny story which also features the characters from the first book. Herb is still hilarious and he and Heath both say things they shouldn't wh I really liked this book and I preferred it to the first book in the series.

Herb is still hilarious and he and Heath both say things they shouldn't when they shouldn't - mostly about sex. They're quite similar characters who quickly become friends - this makes for an entertaining read. The main story holds your attention, feels real and is very sexy in parts. It's just the book when you're looking for a light and funny read with plenty of steam to keep you sizzling. Will definitely read again.

Chase always delivers in that her stories make me smile. John is military and he's trying to decide if he wants to give it up for love. Heath is a waiter, a sweetheart and totally into John. The reason why I didn't rate this story higher is because John and Heath were very similar but not as engaging as the previous book's couple, Chuck and Herb.

Also, the end of the story annoyed me because it seemed to come out of nowhere in a way. I thought Heath and John shoul 2. I thought Heath and John should have had their own special day since they were the MCs in the book. This was okay but not T. Chase's best. Aug 21, Janet rated it liked it.

I want to know who convinced Doc to fire up the flux capacitor and send Marty back to to steal this cover?? Could it be any worse? It was a sweet story, I liked John but I think Heath was as little too Herb, he's like Herb Part 2 but not as well done and even Herb came across a little unlovable in parts. Aug 06, Leaundra rated it it was amazing. This was a sweet story. I loved Heath and John together they were perfect for each other and I loved that we got to catch up with Herb and Chuck again.

Who would have thought that John would go out and find a man that is so much like his brother Chuck's boyfriend Herb. I thought Herb was absolutely hilarious in book one of this series. Then when you put Herb and Heath together in this book, let's just say there is soma lot of laughing when the two are togther u till you are pretty much crying from laughing so hard.

John has pretty well been in the closet his whole life because he is in the military but mostly because he has not had a good reason Who would have thought that John would go out and find a man that is so much like his brother Chuck's boyfriend Herb. John has pretty well been in the closet his whole life because he is in the military but mostly because he has not had a good reason to rock the boat.

But when he meets Heath at his favorite cafe that he eats at regularly, John decides that Heath is worth taking the dive. The attraction between both these men is off the charts. The heat that is between them comes smoldering off the pages as you read this book. I am surprised my kindle did not burst into flames while I was reading this book. This story is a pretty quick read but it was definitely an amzing read.

I love the chemistry between these two men and when you throw in Chuck and Herb in the mix you have a book that is purely amazing.

There is another book in this series that will come out soon and I know from reading the first two books that I will definitely be reading it also.

I honestly cannot wait. I have a feeling that if Herb and Heath make any kind of appearance in the next book with the characters in it, it is going to be a book that will be one to remember.

This series thus far is truly an incredible work of art and I highly recommend it. Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review Feb 26, Lulu Forth rated it liked it. I preferred this to Why I Love Geeks It is the second book in this series and is about John Davidson an army officer and Heath Kane a waiter, we do also get to catch up with Chuck and Herb in this story.

Heath is on only child and following the death of his Dad and Grandfather he comes home to help his Grandma with their restaurant and to study online. John is an officer in the army and flirts with Heath when he comes in to eat at t 2. John is an officer in the army and flirts with Heath when he comes in to eat at the restaurant.

John is not bothered about his fellow army buddies knowing about himself being gay but becomes increasingly protective of Heath and does not want him to come to any harm as a consequence of their relationship.

On a 4 day trip to Atlanta that Herb and Chuck join them on Heath and John's relationship progresses and develops. It doesn't take them long to fall in love. The main characters obviously love each other but I struggled with the unrealistic nature of their what felt like insta-love. I found Heath very similar to Herb from book 1 and I found this a little confusing at times and not very original.

I also noticed some inconsistencies in the story that were quite distracting and some elements were left un resolved. I was not a big fan of the ending at all if I'm honest but it did fit the over all theme of the book. This is a typical T. A Chase read in that's its sweet and easy reading.

Nov 24, Dmitri Parker rated it liked it. Enjoyable but short. I liked the first novel of the series even in spite of the few really, really, reeeally over the top experiments the author squeezed in there. This second one, though, felt rushed. It read more as a summary of what it should have been. All issues and conflicts even the dating, getting to know each other and falling in love between the two MCs happened in the space lost between chapters, even them meeting happened before the start of the book.

I find not find that amusing. I Enjoyable but short. I especially missed the first meeting. It's one of my favorite events in any novel of the MM variety. Herb and Chuck's special appearance in this story was cute. Heath turned and walked away.

John tried not to ogle his ass, but hell, Heath had the prettiest butt John had ever seen. He hoped he had a chance to get up close and personal with that ass soon. Chase lives in the Midwest with her neurotic but still wonderful senior cat.

The notification given by Netflix about the expiration date itself confirms that Skins will go off air.
