For a few months my stupid Droid X has been shutting off, restarting, deleting music, and freezing while listening to music, texting, or using any apps. I do not have any hack on the phone and have dropped it a lot but not hard enough for any real damage.

It started a few months ago with an SD card problem and then an update problem, and nothing has gone uphill at all.

Extra Details: - When the Droid "shuts off" it goes into a blank screen where I have to remove the battery to turn in back on - Most of the problems occur while listening to music - The phone likes to just start playing music randomly when I'm in class.

If you still have issues - switch phones ASAP. If you do not have issues after the reset, start installing one app at a time till you find the one that is buggy.

Hope this helps. I'm really surprised your phone is not rooted. I was going to guess you were OC'd just a little too high. My Dad had similar problems with his unrooted EVO before the 2. I never narrowed it down but I think it was a problem with Beautiful Widgets. I loaded a bunch of non-root apps on his phone LP, handcent, BW, etc.

I still can't convince him to root. Its a combination of things really. Motorola, for example, is light years ahead. You will frequently get force closed apps because 1 Apps are regulated by the devs, not Google and 2 there is just a huge abundance of Android phones with many differences between them.

Your phone should not be resetting itself. A force close is different than a reboot. Might want to add the fact that none of your friends Evos do this so it is singled out to yours specifically. My 2 cents: Don't root with a problem already present. Only the developers will be able to help with real issues. That being said, since you already have a problem the worst thing you can do is void your warranty by rooting. I read somewhere its quite common. My Desire will not shutdown.

If I shut just after it has started it will work but after a short length of time if I try shutting down it will not.

This is quite annoying. I'd rather not send back if I can avoid it. I also have the problem with application launcher but quick uninstaller is a satisfactory work around. I had a very long shutdown time took several minutes to turn off. As I removed see my comments regarding memory most of the apps I had installed myself this prob is gone.

So it must have been one of the apps that didnt allow the device to turn off. Its as Jannen said, Have you ever experienced a long shutdown with windows? Its exactly the same thing with Android. Sometimes it struggles to shutdown the OS efficiently. I think its something we are going to have to live with, or you can get a task killer app manager and kill all running tasks before you shut down your phone.

But i must say it has not happened to me since i have been using helixlauncher2, so it may be a Sense problem? JD ok I treid killing all processes on taskos except sense which is in the ignore list and it shut down in about a minute. But in a good way if you know what I mean. I cannot attribute it to any newly installed application.

Updates, maybe, but I'd have no idea which. I had it rooted with Z4Root, but then Verizon pushed out 2. I'll try to make a call and it may be 30 or more seconds between initiating the call to when the dialer appears and dials. Data speeds are slow. At times the phone seems to operate at almost normal speeds and then it gets slow again. I've removed root access and uninstalled applications that require root access.

I've also removed many other applications that I just don't need or use. On my SD card it says I have 6. For "Application Storage" it says I have 5. I can't figure out what's wrong.

Are there any suggestions short of resetting the phone to factory defaults and staring over? Thanks, Andrew This has happened to my phone before also droid2 rooted stock rom.

What i did to fix the situation, was the only thing i could think of. I just did a factory reset to froyo and my phone was fast again. Just back up all you apps and do a factory reset, its your only real option far as i can tell.

You could try installing something like 3g watchdog to monitor your apps and see if maybe 1 of them is eating up your phones processor. Good luck. Far as i can tell these phones are not much different from a home pc, in that they acquire so much extra pointless bullshit during their use that it just clogs the system. Forcing a reinstall just like a home pc. Once they are reset back to factory, their performance returns to normal along with battery life.

Just be careful not to keep putting useless apps you dont even use onto your phone, just the apps that are absolutely necessary. Keeping to this formula keeps my phone in tip top shape, short of changing roms or major tweaking. Sigh : I guess I'll need to try the reset. I do have Watchdog installed and the last reported 'incident' was three days ago.

No help there. Everything is backed up, so here it goes I'll post back once I recover. I have an R2D2 stock, never rooted. Since the Gingerbread update, it has been flaky and getting worse. It is rebooting several times a day. I miss calls because the screen won't respond.

Sometimes the hard keyboard won't respond and I have to manually reboot the phone to get the keyboard back. At least once, the soft keyboard wouldn't work either. I am hating Gingerbread but am at a loss on how to remove it. I'll be watching for your updates.

The gingerbread update has been reported to have several annoying as hell bugs, i never installed it for that reason alone. Besides i don't feel like loosing the ability to tether wireless, just to upgrade to a buggy version of android.

Ill wait for ice cream to hit then maybe upgrade if i see something worth upgrading for. Till then its froyo, maybe try cyanogen mod 7.

Not sure how much different it is from a factory reset. Swiping between home screens is jumpy. Some games literally run at half-speed. Launching apps can take quite some time. I haven't installed any new apps since the last time I noticed it was running smoothly. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this. I've tried battery pulls, hard resets and clearing the cache from CMW. But nothing seems to work. I was thinking that maybe an app had been updated in the background that is now a problem.

But I can't think of a way to tell which apps have been recently updated. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Many thanks! Damn I feel like an idiot Thanks though
