Why is zumiez bad
Yeah one of a select few guys on this site who isn't a retard. Cheers man. By your logic, the fire department does not save lives, but the people who work there do. They go hand in hand dude, through working at a shop, someone can have the opportunity to do things for the community. Also, if it is a legitimate skater-run shop, you cannot tell me that that dude opened it for money, or else there is a hell of a lot of other options out there. Anyone who opens a shop does it for the love of skating, accepting the fact that while they aren't cashing in on it, they'll be around it every day, and have a chance to do things for the community, get their voice heard, and be a head in the local scene.
You can't possibly say Zumiez does any of that. The people at my zumiez actually skate besides this one girl. It's cool I actually skated at the park with a guy who worked there.
They all know what there talking about for the most part. I actually work at a Zumiez about 10 min away from me. Its really chill. Everyone there skates and the work environment is just fun. Now on the business side of things, selling out the competition is the goal. Its retail, its what they do. I know zumiez does crap for the skate industry and thats why I and basically everyone elses that works there buys stuff from our local shops or online.
I used to go into Zumiez just to ask the employees by the skate counter questions about decks, trucks, wheels, etc. Yeah that is fun. I just did that recently. Looked at each one saying why I didn't like the mellow concave or the nose is to pointy, or belated.
Recently one guy tryed impressing me he said, "You know who 'used' to own Stereo. You see The Squeakquel yet? We should start a game; whenever you see a Zumiez, try to walk in, touch the back wall, and walk out without being asked if they can help you. Extra points if you can take a deck off the wall and set it somewhere.
Never been to tactics. The only local shop my city has is Mr. Bike N Board and it's like 20minutes away So I have to go to zumiez or order online. But there used to be a shop called Go Skate and they setup a second shop by my house but it closed because lack of business obviously.
But yeah they still have a shop in Deland or Deltona cant remember which. I try to support em whenever I can. And a mall based skateshop, are people serious. Don't support this bullshit and go support your local shop. Help keep skating alive, don't kill it!!!!!!! I like Zumiez personally. They've got a great selection of shirts and hoodies for good prices but I always buy my boards at my somewhat local BC Surf and Sport. I think they have like 15 locations throughout the US.
Anyone else go there? I don't go in there anymore. Its like every time go in a Zumies, they look at me like they don't know what im talking about. I asked about the new girl deck by mike carrol, the Hello Kitty one. Their all, they dont have a hello kitty skate board, especially sponsored by girl.
They are assholes, my friend went in to interview for a job, without telling them he was sponsored by BC surf and sport, and he just refused because they were dicks. I don't have anything against zumiez so I think they're fine.
I see what most people are saying about zumiez putting local shops out of business though and that sucks. I bought my first complete from zumiez and the guy who set it up knew what he was doing and it was a decent price.
He also told me about a bunch of cool skate spots since I was just starting. I personally don't have a problem with them but I guess it just comes down to personal preference. Despite the bump,I'll post an opinion. I used to be all "Fuck Zumiez," until I realized why I had to shop there. The store closest to me is awful. It's pretty much locals only, no browsing, and the shop is locked all the time. The other shop I go to is about an hour away, and it's kinda hard to get to. I go there to buy my decks and shit, but never just for clothes.
I really don't give a shit about the closer shop, and Zumiez has good prices on T-shirts I want. I won't buy any hardgoods from them, but anything else, who cares? And does it really matter who they hire? Or who shops there? If you are looking for good advice, obviously a skateshop is the better choice.
I do hate it though, when every person in the store comes up to you saying: "Do you need help with anything? I've been to a few Zumiez around the US, and they have all been pretty good. I only asked about skateboards at some of the Zumiez, and for the most part they were pretty knowledgable about skateboards.
